Healthcare Case Study

Caregivers of Alzheimer's & Dementia Patients — Insights Study (US)

Healthcare Case Study: Caregivers of Alzheimer's & Dementia Patients — Insights Study (US)

Project Overview :

A sensitive-topic CAWI study with US adults who are primary caregivers for family members with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia, exploring caregiving burden, information needs, and interaction with healthcare providers.

Challenge :

Caregivers are a low-incidence, emotionally taxed audience. The study required compassionate questionnaire design, careful emotional check-in routing, and 80 qualified completes within a 10-day window — while protecting respondents from unnecessary distress and the study from misrepresentation fraud.

Solution :

We approached the study with both rigor and empathy:

  • Compassionate Design : Language reviewed by healthcare researchers; sensitive items sequenced gradually with skip-out options.
  • Rigorous Verification : Diagnosis claims verified through multi-stage screening and open-end consistency checks to screen out fraudulent caregivers.
  • Segmented Recruitment : Targeting through caregiver communities and specialized panel sources to reach genuine incidence.
  • Respondent Care : Clear support-resource signposting and honest LOI communication to respect the audience.

Project Results :

Target: US primary caregivers of Alzheimer's/dementia patients, 25+.

N Size: 80 completed interviews.

Incidence Rate (IR): 9%.

Length of Interview (LOI): 22 minutes.

Field Time: 10 days.

High data quality despite the challenging incidence and sensitive topic. The client used the insights to redesign caregiver support materials and inform their patient advocacy engagement strategy.
